The president has blasted House Republicans for failing in their efforts to pass a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, saying they “can’t even bring themselves to do their job.”
Trump told Fox News on Friday that Republicans are failing in “their job.”
“The Republicans can’t even come up with a repeal that’s good for them, so they’re failing in the job,” he said.
“The Democrats are trying, and they’re succeeding, but the Republicans don’t have the guts to do it, you know?”
The president also said that Republicans in the Senate have not been willing to do the same, adding, “they’re not going to do that, they don’t want to do this, they can’t do it.”
“And they won’t do this for the good of the country,” he added.
The president’s comments come just a day after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are “not going to be able to get a repeal together.”
“There is a real chance that it won’t pass, and we’re not doing it,” McConnell told reporters Thursday.
“So we’re going to have to work hard and get it done,” McConnell added.
Senate Democrats have been pressing the administration to pass the measure, with Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D) saying on Friday, “I am not going anywhere.
I am not.
And I think there is no chance that we can do it now.”
Republicans are now trying to work with Democrats on a compromise bill that will repeal parts of ObamaCare and create a more comprehensive package.
