Gwaliors police officer has been arrested on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the state attorney general’s office.
On Tuesday, the Gwalori police chief, Rupendra Sharma, resigned.
The investigation into the officer’s arrest is ongoing.
In a statement on Wednesday, Gwaloria police said the arrest stemmed from a drug investigation.
A preliminary investigation found that Sharma possessed narcotics in his possession and that he was transporting them to a friend in the city.
Sharma’s friend told police that Sharma told him that he wanted to buy cocaine from a friend who was selling cocaine in the town of Rupeshwaram in Gwalbor.
Police said Sharma’s friend said Sharma handed him the drug on Monday and he went to his friend’s house and handed over the drug.
Police took Sharma into custody on Tuesday, and he was taken to a hospital where he was placed under arrest.
The prosecutor’s office said the case is still under investigation.
Shaharma, who joined the Gwalori police force in December 2014, was released on $1,000 bail.
