The United States is at risk of not doing enough to protect people who have been exposed to Zika virus in the United States, a White House official said Monday, saying a federal health agency is investigating whether the administration has sufficient resources to provide them.
The official said the U:S.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting a “pre-exposure assessment” to determine how much money could be spent to help people infected with the virus.
The official was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The announcement comes as the U, along with several other nations, is conducting its own pre-exemptive health tests on pregnant women and people who’ve had Zika virus exposure, the CDC and other federal health agencies said in a joint statement.
The White House statement also said the health agency would work with Congress to create a more robust system to help ensure people are tested before being sent to the hospital.
As a precaution, officials are working with states to create new programs to assist with testing, including one to encourage testing of pregnant women who have traveled from Latin America or the Caribbean, the statement said.
There is no vaccine yet for Zika virus and the virus has not yet been confirmed in the U., although there have been cases in the Caribbean and the U.-S.
But the White House said the CDC is currently investigating how to best help people with Zika, who have not yet had a full recovery.
“We’re working to make sure that we can help the U-S.
and other countries get the most out of the resources we have,” said the official, who was not identified.
The CDC has issued more than 100 advisories since the outbreak began, but the agency has limited resources to help the millions of people who are still being tested.
The health agency has said it has collected more than 200,000 testing kits from hospitals, clinics and businesses across the country.
But the number of people tested for Zika is not nearly as large as it was in the case of other outbreaks.
That means many of the cases tested in the past month have been people who had symptoms of Zika before their travel.
